What is Cork
Cork is made from the bark of the cork oak, Quercus suber, and is a 100% natural product.
The cork oak naturally occurs in Southern Europe and North Africa. This evergreen oak is planted as an ornamental tree in parks and gardens. Furthermore, the tree is mainly cultivated in Spain and Portugal for its cork. It can grow up to 20 meters tall.
The cork oak has a dome-shaped, wide-spreading, heavy crown with twisted branches. Its bark is very rough and has thick ridges.
It is pale brown or pale grey cork. The peeling of the bark from a cork oak is done carefully to prevent damage to the underlying tissue, which could kill the tree. Once the trunks have been “uncorked,” they appear reddish-pink in color.
The cork is harvested from the trunk every 8 to 10 years. This cork is used for insulation, shoe soles, flooring, wall coverings, life buoys, and of course, as bottle stoppers. The wood tends to warp over time. Only after the third harvest is the cork of good quality.
CorkSol was founded on a clear mission:
To create high-performance, eco-friendly building solutions that protect both people and the planet.
Our journey began with the discovery of SprayCork — a revolutionary spray-applied coating made from the bark of the cork oak tree (Quercus Suber). Unlike other building materials that consume natural resources, cork is a renewable gift of nature. The tree is never cut down; instead, its bark is carefully harvested every 9 years, allowing it to regenerate and absorb even more carbon dioxide over time.
We took cork’s natural insulation, flexibility, and resistance to moisture and transformed it into a next-generation coating that could be used on homes, schools, commercial buildings, and more. SprayCork is breathable, waterproof, crack-resistant, and thermally efficient. It reduces energy loss, combats damp and condensation, and even contributes to better fire protection.
But CorkSol is not just about product — it’s about people and purpose.
We work closely with certified applicators who are trained and supported to deliver the highest standards in every project. From modern new builds to historical restorations, CorkSol solutions help clients across the UK, Ireland, Belgium, and beyond to upgrade their buildings — without compromising on sustainability or style.
